In a dystopian near future, according to the laws of The City, single people are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in 45 days, or they’re transformed into an animal of their choice (the main character chooses a Lobster).
From an Integral perspective, The Lobster exposes the rigid social conditioning around love and partnership. Set in a world where being single is punished, the film illustrates how different value systems—conformist (pair at any cost) and rebellious (reject love entirely)—both limit authentic connection. The protagonist’s journey reveals the tension between external rules and inner truth, pointing toward a more conscious, freely chosen relationship grounded not in fear or ideology, but in genuine presence and mutual recognition.
